"And This Happens Every Chanukah That We Defeat All the Enemies" – The Righteous Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

The full lesson delivered by our teacher Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a on Sunday night, the 25th of Kislev, 5785, the first night of Chanukah after the Maariv prayer:

Sunday night, the 25th of Kislev, after the Maariv prayer
It is written "And the yoke shall be destroyed because of the oil" (Isaiah 10:27) the oil of Chanukah. The oil of Chanukah burns all the nations, leaving no trace of them. As King Hezekiah said "Sit at my right hand" (Psalms 110:1) it is written in the Zohar 101: Hashem said to Abraham sit quietly, stop being restless. You went to Shuvu Banim, and you are restless all day. Why are you throwing sand and creating ruins, why are you throwing straw and creating arrows? Who told you to do this? Why do you need to throw sand and create ruins, why do you need to throw straw and create arrows? Sit quietly, "sit at my right hand" be silent, stop being restless, stop being restless. Sit quietly, say Tehillim all day, say Likutei Tefilot, and you will see the angel of Hashem will come and strike them all. Like King Hezekiah, learn from Hezekiah. The Gemara says in Sanhedrin on page 97b: that just as they came to Hezekiah it is written two hundred thousand myriad, two billion six hundred million. So they came with the four kings, who came to conquer the five kings. So it will be with Gog and Magog, because it is the exact same number.
The Megaleh Amukot explains in Parshat Noach: that a person has seventy myriad lights, so every person has – El on the right – the side begins "El Rachum VeChanun" (Exodus 34:6), so from under the side. The side itself is "Hashem Hashem", "Hashem Hashem" is above the thirteen attributes. After this there is "El Rachum VeChanun" which begins from under the ear, the narrow place under the ear – the side under the ear, the hairs under the ear, this is called El, there is also from the right and from the left. El in full – Aleph, Lamed, Peh, this is one hundred and eleven. Peh is… Aleph Lamed is exactly seventy-four – one hundred eighty-five, twice one hundred eighty-five, this is seventy myriad lights, that was to Chava. Because Chava had all the seventy myriad lights. But after the Tree of Knowledge it diminished. But all our work "who performed miracles" – says the Ari – that when we say "who performed miracles" to intend on the seventy myriad lights that return on Chanukah. Every Chanukah the seventy myriad lights that were to Chava return. A person not, a person was "do not look at the jug" – jug – Kuf Nun Kuf Nun only had a third of the seventy myriad, Chava had three times more than Adam HaRishon – seventy myriad lights. She illuminated from one end of the world to the other. A person could not look at Chava's face. And even though his heel dimmed the sun's orb, but the face was already such light, endless light, the light of the seven days "and the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold [as the light of the seven days]" (Isaiah 30:26) we will read the haftarah in Miketz.
Next year no one will read Miketz, no one. I warn you, no one will read Miketz. Next year there is no such thing as reading Miketz, I am against this, I personally am against you reading Miketz. Manage without it, I do not know which parsha you will read but not Miketz this is your last opportunity to read Miketz. But the haftarah is the same haftarah, seven lamps and seven lamps, and seven pipes and seven pipes, seven times seven times seven – three hundred forty-three – forty-nine times seven this is [the gematria of] "in his flesh" (Genesis 6:3) of the three hundred forty-three lights. The tzaddik illuminates not only like the light of the sun, he illuminates three hundred forty-three times the light of the sun! The heel illuminates like the light of the sun. But the face illuminates three hundred forty-three times the light of the sun. This was the face of Chava before the sin, that she illuminated. Because she received directly from Arich Anpin. Because the man needs to go through – to ascend from Malchut to Hod, and from Hod to Netzach – from Malchut to Yesod, from Yesod to Hod, from Hod to Netzach, from Netzach he ascends to Tiferet, from Tiferet he ascends to Gevurah, and from Gevurah to Chesed, and from Chesed to Da'at, and from Da'at to Binah, and from Binah to Chochmah, and then he merits the Keter. And the woman directly merits the Keter, "when you light the lamps" (Numbers 8:2) the woman – "a woman of valor is the crown of her husband" (Proverbs 12:4). She only contemplates teshuvah, she only already reaches Yom Kippur Kol Nidrei, she already illuminates with all the seventy myriad lights. She only needs to go out in the morning to dance, they take her by force to dance.
I personally protested against the dancing, because my mother did not dance on Yom Kippur and not my grandmother, and not my mother's grandmother. Where is this custom to dance on Yom Kippur, I do not know this thing! The Marian family invented this. They dance on Yom Kippur, daughters, we have not heard of such a thing! And the police go and take all the daughters from the houses, take them from the beds, they need to go and dance. No one understands why. I made signs, all Shuvu Banim went out to protest, we are against dancing on Yom Kippur. Then one came and showed me this Mishnah, I did not know.
Simply a Mishnah at the end of Taanit (Perek 4 Mishnah 8), that on Yom Kippur all the daughters of Israel go out in dances and circles. And after this there is another tragedy another catastrophe. Suddenly everyone arrived, and all the daughters arrived and two million daughters arrived and suddenly a loudspeaker comes out to change the dresses. Really shocking catastrophe! Daughters traveled to London traveled to Manchester traveled to Switzerland traveled to China. There are women who prepared dresses worth millions of dollars, with "ruby, topaz, emerald for Shem, agate, sapphire, and diamond" all the diamonds in the world. Suddenly they tell them to change they did not grasp what is happening. Suddenly it comes out [-] from the tents, each one will enter a tent and give her dress to the one from Shuvu Banim who goes with rags, who goes with a dress she found in a puddle of water, in the frog she found a dress. And everyone cries, everyone simply… the ocean rose by a hundred meters, and there was flooding both in Miami and in New York there was flooding, people fled from the houses [-]. And there was a catastrophe I do not know why they said this, but they said no one should come with her dress. Each one should go with her friend's dress, take from the neighbor. And everyone needs to change the dresses with cries and shouts, in Givald everyone is doing Givald, everyone is doing Givald. Why because each one did…
But why dancing, it still remains a question, for what are they doing dances. Yom Kippur they do not do dances, forgive me, I do not know what this custom is. What is this custom to dance on Yom Kippur, did you make this custom? No no you. You are fine. So where is the custom to dance on Yom Kippur from? Rather the Yerushalmi also says in the sixth chapter of Yoma, and [-] says this in the sixth chapter of Shabbat: that every woman would place her red scarf on the window before Kol Nidrei or even her red dress, and place it on the window. And within… the moment they say Kol Nidrei it all turns white. Every moment another child comes from the women's section 'Mom with us already everything has turned white', everything has turned white. Because with the woman all the sins are atoned in a millisecond, she only says Kol Nidrei, she only sheds a tear and already everything is atoned, already everything has turned to merits. The more a person does sins – the Gemara says – so there are more merits. How because it is impossible to understand what this is with ba'alei teshuvah. How is it possible to leave all the impurities all the filth all that they offer them in the other side how is it possible to leave this at all… no one… I was not able to leave. I do not know like they tell about Ronen Dvash that his kippah fell from his head returning to prison [to the cell]. Completely insane, I would hospitalize him in Eitanim. Now I asked him on Thursday: tell me you are insane, why are you returning for a kippah. He said I am returning to prison, I do not have a kippah it fell on the way returning to prison. Simply insane simply crazy but… I am sorry to say this publicly but what can I do, I would not do this, under no circumstances. If I were escaping from prison in India, and I were climbing the wall and I saw that I do not have a kippah, I would jump straight to the street we are already going out. He says no he says without a kippah I do not move, they told him in prison to remove the peyot, they told him in prison the prisoners to remove the peyot, the peyot he did not agree to remove the peyot. And then when he escaped so all the streets had his pictures, but there were pictures without peyot there were the pictures when he entered prison, meanwhile he grew peyot and they could no longer recognize him. Policemen go – five policemen hugging crossing the street, going and looking at each one. And he still asks them for a cigarette, maybe it is possible to get a cigarette with respect. They see one with peyot who knows what sage came from Tibet from Nepal, who knows who this is, what are these hairs what are these braids, he has braids from the ears.
So all this speaks that the women, in one second everything is atoned for them with one tear everything is atoned, and then they have left to dance. Each one puts on a red scarf, puts on a red thread, puts on a red sweater, and by morning everything becomes white, everything whitens, until dawn everything whitens. They only need to go out in dances now. And so it was in the First Temple – all the First Temple, and so it was in the Second Temple. And so it will be in the Third Temple, the women will go out in dances. The men will sit in the synagogue, at the Kotel and cry and prostrate on the ground, and the women will go out in dances in all the streets, in the vineyards outside the city, so they will not be seen.
So when Chanukah arrives, which is then the final seal. Now we are a seal within a seal, that the final seal is on Chanukah. Hashem waits until Chanukah, for each one He waits until Chanukah. To see how he lights the candle, with all the melodies. The melodies alone are half an hour, because half an hour it is forbidden to do anything, forbidden to cook forbidden to do anything for half an hour. So exactly the melodies are exactly half an hour. That they say to the conductor with melodies seven times, Ana Bekoach. And everyone sings slowly slowly "Sing joyfully to Hashem, you righteous ones". This is practiced in all communities, even even they add more chapters more melodies. It comes out exactly half an hour that it is forbidden to do anything during the lighting of the candles.
Now they light the candles twice because it is permissible to light candles even a hundred times. Even in Butshash they would light the candles a hundred times, the same shamash would go from room to room, for each candle he would light a menorah with blessings. A person can light as many times as he wants, for more houses, for more women for more people. And if the woman lit, already the man cannot light. If the man is now exactly in Uman, he needs to light before the woman – he is at four, she is at four and five.
So now we return to the matter of Chanukah to the oil of Chanukah "and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the oil" – Hashem says to Abraham stop being restless, stop throwing ruins, stop throwing arrows, enough of these nonsense. Sit say Tehillim, say Likutei Tefilot, you will see the angel of Hashem will come like King Hezekiah – the angel of Hashem came within a second the neshamah flew to two billion six hundred million. And this happens every Chanukah that we defeat all the enemies, we defeat all the haters, all the Arabs.
Now we traveled to Shechem on the past Motzaei Shabbat, they threw a thousand grenades at us. But everything turned back on them, poor things they all evaporated, became air. As it is written in the Gemara on page 36 in Sotah that when they went to Eretz Yisrael, so how did they reach Shechem? How is it possible to pass through a thousand villages – through ten thousand villages that they will slaughter them all, what the Arabs will remain silent, the Arabs will remain silent, how is it possible to pass? So what does the Gemara say in Sotah page 36a: that they all flew in the air, the entire camp! Billions of people. Each one has four wives, each wife forty children, this is one hundred sixty children each one. Multiply six hundred thousand by one hundred sixty, reaching almost a billion. A billion people flying in the air! Simply from Gilgal they take out twelve stones from the Jordan, and they need to carry them. Each stone is forty seah – this is forty tons, each stone forty tons, each one lifted forty tons alone. And they go with them, twelve in the Jordan, twelve on Mount Ebal, we saw this past Motzaei Shabbat Mount Ebal opposite [Mount Gerizim]. It remains desolate until today, three thousand three hundred years from the Exodus from Egypt, it still remains desolate. And there they erected the altar, and there they wrote – they managed to write – everything in one day the sun stood still for sixty hours. So they plastered all the stones with lime, wrote in seventy languages. And Joshua wrote in seventy languages, he had the swearing of the pen, he could write the entire Torah. The entire five books of Torah they wrote in seventy languages. Nations came peeled it and then they were all liable for destruction. Because you see the holy Torah, you see the miracles. "And no man stood…" (Joshua 12:1). Even Rahab says, "no man stood…", you crossed the Sea of Reeds. So Korach said it was an illusion, there was no Sea of Reeds, and this was all nonsense, Moshe fooled you… everyone believed him! People in a second believe this one who disputes the tzaddik! Of course they were all swallowed by the earth immediately, because anyone who disputes the tzaddik in the end is swallowed by the earth!.
Except for one man whose wife bought him champagne. At least he earned champagne, that's what he earned for disputing the tzaddik, he received a bottle of champagne, slept well, slept well and he wakes up sees everyone swallowed by the earth. So every woman who has a husband who disputes the tzaddik, buy him a bottle of champagne so he will sleep well until the end of his life.
