Beginning of Writing the Book of Vayikra in Torah Scroll for Success of Am Yisrael and Return of Captives
On Sunday, the second day of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, Parashat Chukat, an appreciation evening was held at the home of Moreinu HaRav Eliezer Berland shlitâa for donors of the Torah scroll written for the salvation of Am Yisrael, the ilui neshama (soul elevation) of those murdered in the âIron Swordsâ war, for the end of the war, the safety of the soldiers, and the speedy return of the hostages. Â The event also saw the beginning of the writing of the book of Vayikra.
As previously mentioned here, on the birthday of Moreinu HaRav shlitâa, the writing of the Torah scroll began. Now, after more than seven months, the writing of the books of Bereishit and Shemot have been completed, and Moreinu HaRav Berland shlitâa was honored with writing the beginning of the book of Vayikra. Moreinu HaRav shlitâa began to sing for several minutes, and afterwards, words of chizzuk were heard from one of the rabbis, who roused and strengthened those present about the merit of being partners in the Torah scroll. Afterwards, Moreinu HaRav shlitâa gave a shiur about the significance and merit of writing a Torah scroll, bringing the words of the Gemara in Sanhedrin 21. In his holy manner, the Rav shlitâa branched out with his holy words to additional topics, among them, what is brought in Rashi on the verse, âAmong these, there was no man,â that the women did not sin with the Golden Calf nor in the desert, and from this verse we learn that âthere was no man,â but the women did enter the Holy Land. Likewise, he recounted some of the miracles which took place on the day of Simchat Torah. Afterwards, he moved on to speak about the weekly Parashah â Chukat â and the question of why specifically here is the portion about the Red Heifer written: A person needs to be in prayer like dust and ashes, detached from all foreign and improper thoughts. Later in the shiur, he spoke about the significance of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, which is the initial letters of âZichru Torat Moshe â Remember the Torah of Moshe,â as brought in Likutey Moharan, that this is the month of the giving of the Torah, the first Tablets. Towards the end of the shiur, the Rav shlitâa spoke with holy fire about the holiness of the home and the holiness of the Jewish person. At the conclusion of his holy words, songs of gratitude and praise to the Creator of the World were sung for the merit of being partners in the writing of the âTorah scroll of Am Yisrael,â in the pure language of the Rav shlitâa. During this time, the donors merited to sit and sign a partnership agreement in the Torah scroll together with Moreinu HaRav shlitâa.You too can take part in the great merit of writing the Torah scroll for the success of Am Yisrael, the rescue of the hostages, and the ilui neshama of the murdered.
