Hashem Did this to Me, No One Else â Daily Chizzuk with Rav Eliezer Berland Shlitâa
THE DAILY CHIZZUK OF OUR REBBE, THE GAON AND TZADDIK, RABBI ELIEZER BERLAND SHLITâA â âHASHEM TOLD HIM TO CURSE DAVID.â These are his holy words: Pharaoh would ridicule the Kadosh Baruch Hu, that Moshe and Aharon are practicing sorcery. âThe fool vents all his angerâ (Mishley 29:11). This is Pharaoh, who thought that this was more sorcery, but really this was the work of Hashem. This wasnât sorcery. The staff and the serpent wasnât sorcery â these were signs which Hashem gave. Hashem can turn a staff into a serpent and a serpent into a staff. Hashem can turn sea into dry land and dry land into sea.  Before this, they walked on dry land in the midst of the sea. After this, they were amidst the sea on dry land. So that a person amidst the sea should know that he is on dry land. [When he is] on dry land, to know that he is amidst the sea â that he should feel secure. [We are] supposed to receive the Tablets during the giving of the Torah. Hashem wants to give us the Tablets [the shiur was given before Shavuot]. Now, before the Messiah comes, Hashem wants to give us the Tablets anew with lights and lightning. âI am Hashem your G-dâ (Shemot 20:2), that a person should know that âI am Hashem your G-d,â that a person should know that everything is Hashem. As David says, âHashem told him to curseâ (II Shmuel 16:10) â that a person is prepared to say about everything [that] Hashem did this to meâ A person [who is] insulted is resentful for several days until he calms down. The greatest tzaddik takes three days to calm down â David in a second said âHashem told him to curse.â Hashem is doing this; I have no confusion here. They say to him, who is this dogâs head? [As it says there, âAvishai ben Tzruya said to the king, âWhy should that dead dog curse my master the king. Iâll go forth now and remove his headââ (II Shmuel 16:9)]. Just a dog. This is a head of a reincarnation of a dog. Who is this dogâs head? This was Shimi ben Gera. He was the rabbi of King Shlomo (Berachot 8a). When they killed Shimi, Shlomo immediately went and married Pharaohâs daughter.
