If I Hadn't Prayed to Be Like the Chazon Ish, I Would Be Nothing • The Daily Lesson from Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Below is a summary of the topics from the daily lesson as delivered by our teacher, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a – yesterday after the Maariv prayer on Sunday night, the eve of the 9th of Tevet, 5786, Parshat Vayechi:

1. The boys will be awake all night, they need to finish 19 pages. Study Kiddushin.
2. The girls will study the Book of Shmuel on how it is possible to betroth two sisters.
3. Mattityahu and his sons slaughtered the real Greek pigs.
4. Everyone needs to be like the Chazon Ish, R' Baruch Ber said that he wanted to be like the Chazon Ish and because of this he merited to be R' Baruch Ber. If not, I would be nothing.
5. Chana prayed, "The bows of the mighty are broken" – this refers to the Greeks who ruled the world for 180 years and in the end failed, "but those who stumbled are girded with strength" – the Hasmoneans defeated them without weapons.
6. It is written that the prayer of Chana and the song of Devorah are higher than the prayer of Moshe and the Song of the Sea.
7. The woman is always twice as much as the man. They asked R' Gershon Edelstein what is preferable, a wise woman or a foolish one.
8. Chana merited to rectify the Shemoneh Esrei prayer, during the entire First Temple period they prayed Chana's prayer as the Shemoneh Esrei.
