The miraculous letter of Ilan Tamir
THE MIRACULOUS LETTER OF ILAN TAMIR The following amazing story was recorded a couple of yearsā ago, before Rav Berland, shlita, returned to Israel: āMy name is Ilan Tamir, and I was born in Tiberius and grew up there. Today, I live in Jerusalem. The story Iām going to tell you happened around 20 yearsā ago, and it started when someone invited me to go with him to see the gaon and the Tzaddik, Rav Eliezer Berland, shlita. That time around, something happened and I wasnāt able to get in to see the Rav, shlita. So instead, I gave in a letter describing a couple of big questions I had. It was only when I was leaving that I realised, to my great regret, that Iād forgotten to write any of my contact details on the letter, and the Rav didnāt know me, I thought, so he wouldnāt be able to get hold of me. One day, my sister got in touch and told me that she had a letter for me. I found out that one of my childhood friends from school in Tiberius had been walking through the Geula neighborhood of Jerusalem and had seen a letter that had been thrown on the floor, that had my name on it - Ilan Tamir. He remembered that he knew someone called Ilan Tamir, but he didnāt know how to get hold of me. He told this story to his sister from Jerusalem, where he was staying, and she told him that Ilan Tamirās sister was also living in Jerusalem, and that he could leave the letter by her. I got to Jerusalem, to come get the letter, and to my amazement I saw it was the letter that Iād written, and that [on the bottom] there were answers from Rav Berland, shlita. I took the letter to Rav Shalom Arush, shlita, who reassured me that it was indeed the handwriting of the Rav, shlita, someone like him would know, because he is one of the Ravās oldest students. Iād asked questions regarding my private life, but Rav Berland didnāt just answer them, he also added in writing that Iād been told what to do before, by Rav Shalom Arush, and I hadnāt followed his advice⦠I was surprised all over again, because I hadnāt written anywhere in the letter that I was connected to Rav Arush, shlita. Rav Berland finished his answers by saying: āDo what Rav Arush told you to do, and your problems will disappear very quickly.ā So I did, and in truth the problem that Iād been suffering with for a long time already suddenly disappeared, in 15 minutes. I really saw a huge miracle, and it was very hard to believe what had happened. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBP7ER-AmUE CLICK TO WATCH ILAN TAMIR TELL HIS STORY IN THE ORIGINAL HEBREW (7:40 MINS) How I finally got to meet Rav Eliezer Berland, shlita, was completely by accident. One day, I was travelling around the North [of Israel], when one of my friends called Ezra suggested that we go and visit Rav Berland, shlita. At that point, I was still just at the beginning of my [spiritual] journey, so I said to him: āGet out of here, Iāve already seen enough rabbis to last me a lifetime.ā But happily, he didnāt back down and he managed to drag me along with to see Rav Berland, shlita. He kept telling me: āThis Rav, heās really big, heās the Rav of Rav Arush!ā We got there, and it was the middle of Succot, and the Rav, shlita, just stayed sitting in his succah, eating very small slices of challah - and I just froze on the spot. Everyone was trying to convince me to leave and continue with the tiyul (holiday), but I just ignored them. I just couldnāt stop staring at him - āget out of here!ā I told them. It was the first time Iād ever seen anything like it. One day, my wife and I heard about the idea of doing a pidyon nefesh (redemption of the soul) with the Tzaddik. Iād heard that Rav Berland had said that even if he wasnāt present, and the pidyon money hadnāt yet been passed along to him, it was already doing what was required, even if the pidyon hadnāt actually got to him yet. So, me and my wife scraped together all the money that we could from our bank account - it was like the last 500 shekels we possessed. We sent it all off to Rav Berland, then we went on our way. Four daysā later, we got a really surprising letter delivered to the house. It turned out that the Bituach Leumi (National Insurance) had gone through their files, and discovered that my wife had a number of children, and also had a disability. So, it turned out that they were sending us seven times the amount that weād sent off to Rav Berland, as the pidyon. This was really a miracle! At the time when we were doing the pidyon, it didnāt even cross our minds that weād be helped in this way by the Bituach Leumi, because we had no idea that theyād made a mistake [with our file.] Itās really hard to explain it to others, but an enormously holy man is walking around in our generation. We have the merit, that weāve got a Rav like this in our generation. I have no idea how people could do the things theyāve done to the Rav! Until we actually merited to get a holy man like this in our times⦠It seems like something really big is going on that we canāt really explain. Because thereās no doubt that Rav Berland, shlita, is an ish emet (man of truth), and that there is no-one else like him. When Rav Berland gets back to Israel, thatās when everyone will start to understand the truth. Even if the Rav, shlita, ends up being extradited, heāll still arrive home to a red carpet welcome. When the Rav came home to Jerusalem, the red carpet was rolled out for him in front of his home.) Eventually, everyone will know the truth. Even the police knows the truth [that everything is just slander and lies]. I know there are so many different people [who made teshuva] by Rav Berland, shlita, in his yeshiva, including musicians, pilots, and even, former police chiefs.ā
