One Must Pray Not to Leave the Note of Jerusalem • The Daily Lesson from Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Here is a summary of the topics from the daily lesson as delivered by our teacher Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a – yesterday after the Maariv prayer on Tuesday night, the 13th of Kislev 5786, Parshat Vayishlach:

1. Korach was greater than Moshe Rabbeinu; he flew in the air but needed to nullify himself to Moshe.
2. In the future, Korach will be the High Priest.
3. A person must pray that all his life he remains on the note of Jerusalem. The first to rise will be from Jerusalem. Every apartment in Jerusalem is like a palace. The dew of Hermon descends upon the mountains of Zion. Indeed, all the dew of the world first descends on Jerusalem.
4. Now, all over the world, beneath the floods, everyone is dying in the deluge.
5. And this is what is written, "And the lost shall come and bow on the holy mountain in Jerusalem."
6. The Chatam Sofer cried out, how can one leave Jerusalem?? It is forbidden to live elsewhere! One cannot force a woman to leave Jerusalem. Those who say there is no mitzvah to live in Jerusalem have no basis! The Rambam writes that Jerusalem is always holy, and its holiness is never nullified. Therefore, one must ensure not to be erased from the note of Jerusalem, and the reason there was an earthquake in Tzfat is because they did not live in Jerusalem, as it was already permissible to live in Jerusalem.
7. They would transfer money to Jerusalem, and then there was an informer who eventually came to the Rebbe for rectification, so the Rebbe told him to say Tehillim, and he died from his weeping.
8. Apart from the synagogue of Bat Ayin, which was in the middle of Tachanun, all places in Tzfat were destroyed.
9. The Chatam Sofer wondered how they make a celebration on Lag BaOmer instead of coming to the Kotel.
10. If one leaves Jerusalem, he will receive a punishment. It is forbidden to leave Jerusalem forever and ever!
