Shiur at Rav Berland’s Home for Petah Tikva Residents

Residents of Petah Tikva, students of our Rebbe Rav Berland shlit”a merited to come last night, 9 Iyar, to a shiur in the home of the Rav shlit”a.

The participants in the shiur were a group which gathers weekly for a Torah lesson in the home of one of the group, meriting to draw close to and receive the Torah of the “Flowing stream, source of wisdom” [Rebbe Nachman of Breslov] according to the unique path of Rav Berland shlit”a. In the shiur, the Rav spoke about the matter of Avraham requesting from Sarah’s angel “so that it will go well with me for your sake, and that I may live on account of you” (Breisheit 12:13) – so that her angel would escort him since his angels had abandoned him when he descended to Egypt.  After this, the Rav spoke about the value of peace in the home and the great obligation of honoring one’s wife and speaking to her encouraging words.  Likewise, the Rav spoke about the secret of the “green line” in preparation for the upcoming celebration of Lag Omer. Here is a portion of the awesome and fiery words of the Rav from the shiur:

”So [if] a man doesn’t know to tell his wife, ‘You are the wisest.  You are the most precious,’ as it’s written ‘My sister, My love, My dove, My perfect one’ (Shir HaShirim 5:2).  This is ‘many women have amassed achievement, but you have surpassed them all.’  We sing this on Shabbat evening after Ma’ariv.  So whoever doesn’t know to say this shouldn’t get married.  All of this is in the Zohar daf 42.  A man needs to tell his wife ‘Many women have amassed achievement, [but you have surpassed them all].’  You are the most wise, most wondrous woman.  You are the most successful woman.  Your are the most... woman.  Don’t say, ‘My mother cooked better, and most sister cooks better.’
