Shiur for Kollel Students of Shuvu Banim in the Old City at Home of Rav Berland Shlit”a

Last Monday, a shiur at the home of Moreinu HaRav Eliezer Berland shlit”a was held for kollel students of Shuvu Banim in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Below is a summary of the shiur:

The Rav shlit”a began the shiur with the sugyiot in Gittin as brought in the Rambam.  The Rav explained that even if two simanim [namely the throat and esophagus, which are cut in kosher slaughter] are cut in a person, it is still possible to betroth a woman, and that he is still considered like a living person. Later in the shiur, the Rav shlit”a spoke about his trip to the grave of Rabbi Yeshaya ben Rabbi Moshe of Kerestir, and related a number of stories of miracles which Rabbi Yeshayala performed after his passing.  He also spoke of his promise before the Holocaust to someone who served him faithfully that his grandchildren would be saved – and so it was. In the second part of the shiur, the Rav shlit”a spoke about Agadot on numerous topics, among them: The construction of Jericho and the stopping of rain by Eliyahu HaNavi.  Likewise, he mentioned that all calamities are because of the sale of Yosef.  Likewise, he spoke of the calamities that were on Simchat Torah.
