A group of Bat Yam residents merited to enter the home of our Rebbe Eliezer Berland shlitâa on the evening of 23 Iyar for a special shiur which lasted for around forty minutes.
At the beginning of the shiur the Rav shlitâa spoke about the level of the sefirah Gevurah sheâbe Yesod [the shiur began a few minutes before sunset when it was still Gevurah sheâbe Yesod].
The Rav spoke about how a person needs every day to merit to the quality of Gevurah (strength), like King David aâh who merited to battle lions and bears as itâs written, âAlso the lion, also the bear your servant struck downâ (I Shmuel 17:36).
Afterwards, the Rav spoke of the question of the
Kitzot HaChoshen in section 61:3-4 on how David betrothed Merav through killing Goliath, since this was less than the value of a perutah [the minimal amount needed to effect betrothal]. The
Kitzot answered according to the responsa of the Maharit, that Saul had promised great wealth to whoever killed Goliath. So through this wealth David betrothed Merav, through a sort of loan. Afterwards, the Rav continued speaking in the depths of halachah in this section of the Shulchan Aruch regarding other subjects.
After forty minutes the Rav shlitâa told one of the participants to recite Kaddish, and the group went out to pray Maâariv with the Rav shlitâa.
