Tefilah L'Ani -- Prayer to be Saved from Anger by Rabbi Eliezer Berland Shlit"a
TO BE SAVED FROM ANGER Ribbono Shel Olam -- Master of the World, Who can do everything, and that nothing can impede [Your] purpose from Youâplease help me to never become angry again, and to be pleasant to others and full of compassion for every person. Let me truly understand that every time a person becomes angry, he loses his soul completely, and who knows if his soul will ever return to him. Therefore, Merciful and Gracious One, please act according to Your wondrous deeds, so that from this day forward, my nature will change so that I will no longer become angry at anyone ever again, and that I will love every person with heart and soul. Master of the World, may I merit to be like King David aâh, who said, âAnd I was senseless and did not know; I was like a beast with Youâ (Tehillim 73:22), and to know that I am simply like a beast, with no understanding at all. Let me merit to fulfill the words of Shlomo, his son, who said: âSurely I am a boor of a man and do not have human understandingâ (Mishlei 30:2). May I merit to all this by guarding every single moment, for the word baâar (boor) [with one added for the entire unit] is numerically equivalent to rega (a moment), because only one who guards his time, every single moment, merits to know that he is a boorâand then he no longer criticizes or rebukes anyone. Through this, may I merit to attain true love of friends, for I will become one who loves peace and pursues peace, and I will no longer look at others negatively or seek their flaws. I will thus fulfill what is written (Likutei Tefilot, Prayer 38): And therefore, may You give me the merit in Your mercy, my Father, Father of Mercy, to engage in Your holy Torah day and night. Let me never waste a single one of my nights without learning and engaging in the holy Torah and Divine service, all the days of my life. Help me to push sleep away from my eyes, to study much of Your holy Torah and to be occupied in many prayers, supplications, and requests every night and every single day. May You always be my help so that no distraction in the world will have the power to pull me away from Torah and Divine service, God forbid, so that I will never become idle from words of Torah ever again. And through this, may you grant me merit, guard me, and save me from speaking evil. Let me never defile the speech of my mouth, and may no evil word ever leave my lips about any Jew in the world, and may I never probe into the shortcomings of people. Only help me and incline my heart so that I merit to always seek out all the merit and good that is possible to find in every single Jew, even in the lowest of the low. Let me merit to exert myself and toil in this, to strive to find some merit, even in the most base of the base. Be with me always and help me to succeed in always finding some merit and goodness in every single person. From now on, save me from ever criticizing any person or investigating the shortcomings of my fellow, God forbid. On the contrary, may I only merit to always toil with all my power, strength, and might to find the merit and goodness in every single Jew and in every person in the world, even in those who oppose and persecute me day and night. May I merit to always judge them favorably, and grant me understanding and knowledge of how to always search for the merit and good points in them.
