We Must Seal the Breach – Daily Chizzuk by Rabbi Eliezer Berland Shlit”a

THE DAILY CHIZZUK FROM MOREINU HARAV ELIEZER BERLAND SHLIT”A – “UPON THE ONE WITH GREATNESS IN DOMINION AND BOUNDLESS PEACE” WEDNESDAY, 27 TAMMUZ 5785 – “WE MUST SEAL THE BREACH” These are his holy words: Now we are after Passover, after the splitting of the sea—when the sea split. This is called the “closed Mem” [e.g. the “final Mem—ם”]. Because there is an “open Mem” and a “closed Mem.” The closed Mem appears in the verse “LeMarbeh [לםרבה][1] HaMisrah – Upon the one with greatness in dominion” – “Upon the one with greatness in dominion and boundless peace” (Yeshayahu 9:6). The open Mem is from “HemPerutzim [המפרוצים][2] -- which had been breached” -- “The walls of Jerusalem which had been breached” (Nechemiah 2:13). The walls are breached. NOW THERE ARE NO WALLS. WE HAVE NO WALLS. THE WALL SURROUNDING THE OLD CITY ISN’T TRULY A WALL—EVERYTHING IS BREACHED. SO WE NEED TO SEAL THE BREACHED MEM. Because the Mem that is breached is the open Mem—so the moment we seal the open Mem, the closed Mem of “LeMarbeh HaMisrah” will open. This is “Bereishit – In the beginning.” That’s what Eliyahu HaNavi said, that it was written “MeiReishit -- From the beginning,” and Hashem changed the Mem to a Beit—He opened the Mem. For all our work is to open the closed Mem, and this was through the women, who refused under any circumstances to accept Pharaoh’s decree. They prayed for nine months, and those who didn’t pray—their children were built into the walls. But those who did pray—angels came [to save them]. The [Egyptian] commando ambushed every woman. They stationed four-year-old children at every entrance [to spy and report when the women were giving birth]. The moment a woman gave birth, she let out a cry—you can’t give birth without a cry. As soon as she cried out, the children immediately called for the commando. The commando wanted to snatch the newborn, but the angels arrived first. Immediately, the angels told the women, “Run fast!” All the angels came and helped the righteous women—and that’s how Israel left Egypt. https://vimeo.com/1103617061?fl=pl&fe=sh [1] Even though the closed Mem usually only appears at the end of a word, here it, unusually, appears in the middle of a word. [2] Here the word המפרוצים is written as one word, even though it’s read as two words – “הם פרוצים”.  The result is that the Mem that should be closed is written as an open Mem, the opposite of the case of “HaMarbeh.”
