What is the Name of the Redemption? – Daily Chizzuk with Rabbi Eliezer Berland Shlit”a
THE DAILY CHIZZUK OF MOREINU HARAV RABBI ELIEZER BERLAND SHLIT”A – YAEL HID SISRA UNDER THE LAUNDRY TUB WEDNESDAY, 2 NISAN 5784 Yael – “And she covered him with a smicha” (Shoftim 4:18). But there is not [another mention of] “smicha” [in the Bible]. One [source] says (Vayikra Rabba 23:10) that this is a “paila” [Ladino for a laundry tub]. Paila is a large tub. Who says that this is a smicha [i.e. a blanket] like we are familiar with? There were no blankets, so she covered him. Yael put him under the table, put a large Paila on top of him. WHAT IS A “SMICHA”? THE GEMARA ASKS WHAT IS A “SMICHA.” Reish Lakish says that it is a Paila (Vayikra Rabba 23:10). Paila is a tub, a giant tub. Yael covered Sisra with a tub, hid him underneath the tub. SO “SMICHA” IS A PAILA. THE MEGALEH AMUKOT SAYS: “THE WORD ‘SMICHA’ IS THE NUMERICAL VALUE OF TZIPPORA,” BECAUSE YAEL WAS A REINCARNATION OF TZIPPORA. Why is it written “smicha”? Smicha [שמיכה] is Shin – 300, Mem-Yud-Kaf – exactly 70, plus Heh [5] [=375], together “Tzippora,” because Tzippora is written without a Vav [צפרה]. The Megaleh Amukot writes in Ofan 87 that Tzippora is the numerical value of Smicha. He also adds that Devorah is a spark of Moshe. Yael is a spark of Tzippora, and Shamgar ben Anat is Gershom. Devorah is Moshe. Therefore, Esther is also Moshe. Shamgar ben Anat was Gershom. Together, they were father, mother, and their son, Gershom – “For he said, ‘I was a stranger (ger) in a foreign land’” (Shemot 18:3). And after this, appears the verse, “And the name of the one was Eliezer, for the God [Elokei] of my father came to my aid [ezer], and He saved me from the sword of Pharaoh” (ibid 4). However, Eliezer is supposed to be before Gershom, because beforehand Moshe was on the chopping block, and there they lifted up the sword over him, and he sword turned around on the executioner. From here, [we see] that he was supposed to call the name Eliezer first, because [the incident with Pharaoh’s executioner happened] before “I was a stranger.” Only after this did he arrive in Midian. It took Moshe another week to arrive in Midian. Here he walked by foot from Egypt to Midian – this is another week. Beforehand was Eliezer – “And He saved me from the sword of Pharaoh” (Shemot 18:4). However, Moshe said, “As long as I have not seen the salvation of the Jewish people, I will not give the name Eliezer.” ELIEZER IS ALREADY SALVATION! IT IS ALREADY: ELI OZER -- MY GOD HELPS! HASHEM HELPS! WINNING OVER EVERYONE! WINNING OVER THE ENEMIES! May the complete redemption come speedily in our days, Amen.
