Last Thursday, 8 Marcheshvan 5786, the Million-Man Rally was held with the participation of countless Jews.  Moreinu HaRav Eliezer Berland shlit”a also took part in the rally, like all Gedolei HaDor, for the sake of saving the Torah world against the terrible conscription decree hovering over yeshiva students.

Moreinu HaRav shlit”a arrived at the area of the rally already at around 12:30 PM, at the Shaarei Yerushalayim Hotel (Yirmiyahu 43, beneath the “Center 1” shopping center), where he sat and engaged in Torah study until the start of the rally.

A little after 3:00 PM, the Rav shlit”a appeared at the window on the upper floor of the “Shaarei HaIr” overlooking the crowds of Jews standing in prayer for the salvation of the Torah world. After his location was publicized, our community came and gathered to stand in prayer beneath the window, and for forty minutes throughout the rally, the Rav shlit”a was visible from the hotel window. The attendants of Moreinu HaRav shlit”a relate that he participated and recited the entire order of prayer for the rally as established by Gedolei HaDor. A little before the end of the rally , at the last Kaddish, the Rav shlit”a returned inside the hotel.  He waited until about an hour after the rally ended, until the crowds cleared the streets of the Holy City and the roads opened.  At close to 5:30 PM, he returned to his holy home.
