THE DAILY CHIZZUK BY MOREINU HARAV ELIEZER BERLAND SHLIT”A – WE LEARN FROM MORDECHAI THAT WE NEED TO LEARN ONLY THE HOLY LANGUAGE THURSDAY, 14 ADAR BET, 5782 These are his holy words: A certain maskil (“enlightener”) came to Rabbi Chaim of Brisk and told him, “I have proof that you have to learn languages – English, French…  You have to know Arabic.  We learn this from Mordechai, who knew 70 languages.” Rabbi Chaim of Brisk answered him, “From Mordechai, we learn the exact opposite, because the chamberlains, Bigtan and Teresh, spoke out loud.  They knew that Mordechai didn’t understand anything!” We see that whoever learns in Cheder [Torah schools for small children] doesn’t need to know anything – no languages.
